But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. Exodus 17:12
Israel was at war with the Amalekites. It was an all day battle led by Joshua. Moses stood on top of a hill along with Aaron and Hur. When Moses held his hands in the air, the Israelite’s would begin to over take the Amalekites. When his hands dropped, the Amalekites would start to overtake Israel. So Aaron and Hur held up Moses’s hands and would not let him drop them. So Israel prevailed and the Amalekites were defeated.
We all can grow weary in this battle we are in called life. The enemy wants nothing more than to discourage us and defeat us.
This story in Exodus is a reminder to all of us that we are called to lift each other up. When I am weary, there is nothing that picks me up like a brother coming alongside of me and lifting my hands in the battle.
Let’s remember to come along side a brother or sister in the battle and lift up their weary hands so they can press on to victory.
