Pastor’s Perspective

Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17

When I was a little boy, we lived on the east coast where thunder storms were quite frequent. At first I was terrified of the loud thunder and the flash of lightning. But eventually I realized there was something majestic in the storms. That something greater than I was involved although I could not see who was behind it.I would imagine this huge God like figure pushing the buttons that made the lightning flash and the thunder rumble. To see behind the scenes would have been cool I thought.

When Israel was surrounded by the Syrian army and there seemed no hope, Elisha’s servant cried out,”what shall we do?” So Elisha prayed to the Lord to open his servant’s eyes. When the Lord did, the servant saw the armies of the Lord in the mountains ready to defend Israel. How Awesome that must have been for the servant to see behind the scenes what God was doing.

When we face uncertainty, just remember that God is behind the scenes doing something that we cannot tangibly see. He is causing the thunder and lightning, or surrounding an enemy with His mighty army. We just need to stay close to Him and trust that He is going to work everything out. Lord open our eyes today to the unseen things you are doing in our lives.
