Pastor’s Perspective

Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. — Mark 6:31

Do your feel like you are running from the time your feet hit the floor in the morning until it’s time to go to bed? I remember as a kid growing up in the 60’s hearing how much leisure time we will have in the future due to computers and other enhancements of life. We would have 20 hour work weeks and enjoy more time with our families. Yet today, nothing could be further from the truth. People on average are working 50 hours a week. On top of that, a majority of people commute more than 25 miles one way to work daily. Not to mention that families have kids that are playing multiple sports, school events, and homework assignments that typically involve the parents. No wonder people are irritated and angry. They are burned out.

But Jesus gives us a personal invitation to go with Him to a quiet place and get some rest. How desperately we need to heed his words. Without that time to draw away and get to a quiet place and just withdraw, we continue to be bound up and running on fumes. Think about your day today. Have you put a few minutes in to just draw away and read a few verses in the Bible, or just spend some time in prayer. What does your week and month look like. Is it full of activities and busyness? Let’s remember that Jesus is waiting to get to a quiet place with us and just spend some time together. Let’s slow our pace and take time to recharge so we can continue to work the mission Jesus has given to us.
